Our initial thoughts were to name our company “Wise Guys,” but the connotation behind that term reminded us of the movie with Danny DeVito and Joe Piscapoe and a slew of other Hollywood characters. We’re not those kind of guys. So, it was back to the drawing board. It became clear that our mission was to prepare our clients for the future of the industry — to impart our wisdom and vision.
Yes, wisdom is a critical component of our brand but it’s what we did with decades of boots-on-the-ground experience in the optical industry that gave us that wisdom. It occurred to each of us that, with great wisdom comes great responsibility. In our case that meant helping today’s independent eye care professionals prepare for the future and compete in an ever-changing optical marketplace —— to "mentor" them. The “Visionary” part — seemed logical. It plays to our strength in constantly analyzing the independent eye care market - present and future.
Voila — Visionary Mentors.
Each of our team members has spent decades, not in the hallowed halls of some ivy league school earning advanced degrees, but as sales and marketing professionals - selling frames, lenses, lab services, new technologies, building brands, even dispensing fashion eyewear at the retail level. You name it —- we've sold it, we marketed it —- That's boots-on-the-ground experience.
Nothing against advanced degrees, but having worked on a few teams filled with folks who had them, yet lacking actual optical retail experience, it became apparent that there is no substitute for real world experience. Trust us — there is NO substitute for experience at the retail level and a dose of good old common sense.
Our team has made thousands of visits to independent eye care professionals and industry leaders all over the world. We’ve seen the good, the bad and the soon to be “Out of Business.” As a group we’ve absorbed what worked well in the past and improved upon it for the future. We’ve learned what doesn’t work and make it our commitment to teach our clients to avoid those same mistakes.
The Visionary Mentors team knows that creating innovative, targeted solutions for your practice is useless without implementation. We engage our clients and work with them through the mentoring process.
